Emmanuel Baptist Church has a long godly heritage of commitment to Christ and the proclamation of His Word. Through the door-to-door evangelistic efforts of two Russian men, EBC began with thirteen converts in 1919. In those days the borough of Manville was still young, having boomed into existence due largely to jobs brought in by the Johns-Manville Corporation. The church grew through those early years by trusting in God's grace and provision. The borough of Manville has a strong Eastern European influence due to the influx of Russian, Ukrainian and Polish immigrants at the beginning of the century. Early church services were held in the Russian language, but the language eventually changed in the early 1950's as Manville became "Americanized". The church remains affiliated with the Russian-Ukrainian Evangelical Baptist Union. The present church building was dedicated in 1954, with an addition dedicated in 1983, and a sanctuary renovation completed in 2002. In 2009, we celebrated our 90th anniversary with a special service and luncheon. We invited previous pastors to come and share some of their fondest memories of what the Lord has done at EBC. Certainly the most significant aspects of our history, however, are the many lives which have been touched by the Lord Jesus Christ through the faithfulness of Emmanuel's people over these decades. We look forward to fruitful days ahead, as we follow God's calling to shepherd His people until Christ returns.
